Botanischer Garten
(Botanical Garden)
The old botanic garden, founded
in 1812 in the city centre, was not longer able to exist after
having slowly given up much of its grounds. Therefore it was
moved to the outskirts of the town in 1914, next to the Nymphenburg
palace grounds.
It contains 22 hectares, 4500 square metres of which are under
the glass roofs of its various greenhouses.
The garden is especially beautiful in springtime, when all
the trees are in full blossom and tulips and daffodils decorate
the borders of the lily ponds. Later followed by the flowers
of the rose garden and the Rhododendron grove. The Alpinum,
where one can admire Edelweiss and gentian, is also worth seeing.
Alongside the picturesque ponds squirrels caper under the diverse,
well signposted trees.
The cafe-restaurant with a view over the rose garden and the
"Schmuckhof" is open from Easter till October.
