Residenz München (Munich Residence)

The Munich Residenz, built in 1385, was for four centuries the home and seat of goverment of the Wittelsbacher dynasty. Since it's partial destruction in 1944, this historical residence, with approx. 130 rooms, has become one of Europas most famous museums for interior decoration. Precious sculptures, paintings, clocks, tapistries and much more can be seen in a room built in the appropriate style.

Altes Residenztheater (Old Residence Theatre)
The Cuvilleès-Theater, named after it's architect, was built between 1751 and 1755 on the orders of the bavarian Electoral Prince Max Joseph. III. After the destruction of the "New Opera House" during the II World War - from which only the wainscotting from the outer boxes remain was rebuilt in 1958. Today the numerous theatre-goers enjoy the luxurious southern German roccoco style of the theatre.

The Treasury
The treasury, grounded in 1565 by Duke Albrecht V. today covers more than ten rooms in the royal residence. To be seen are nine centuries worth of enamel, crystal and ivory works of art as well as impressive gold items. Among the most important exhibits are monastry owned works from the early Middle Ages as well as extravagant jewellry and tableware.
