Deutsches Theater
Deutsches Theater
The neobaroque amusement hall, the "Feenpalast" was built in the late 19th century and opened as a playhouse 1896. In its turbulant history it has not only played host to famous artists such as the German comedian Karl Valentin, Josephine Baker or the New York Tiller-Girls, is was also temorarily the home of the Parlament of the Bavarian soviet republic between the wars. After its destruction in the 2nd World War the theater reopened in 1951 and delighted the audiences with stars such as Zara Leander and Marika Rökk. In 1961 musicals such as "West Side Story" and "My Fair Lady" took over. The broad repertoire of operettas, dance theater, shows, entertainment, musicals and comedy provides good entertainment. The Deutsche Theater seats 1.600 but does not have its own ensemble, making it the largest theatre for touring shows in Germany. At the end of the theater season the Deutsche Theater transforms into a ballroom, in which glittering parties, grandiose masked balls and exclusive charity events take place - the highlights of Munichs social calendar.
