DescriptionAschheim looks back over a long history: there was a settlement here in the Neolithic era over 5000yrs ago. The Romans also left their mark and gave the village it's name: Ascaim ("Home near the Ashes"). The church, built in 600 AD was, in the early middle ages, the first resting place of the martyr St. Emmeran who died on the way to Aschheim after being tortured. The first school for the village children was established here in the 18th century in a small hermitage. In the 1960s and 1970s the small village grew and now has over 5,600 inhabitants and became a classic suburb with mostly terraced and detached houses, but has still been able to keep its individual character.
